Oslo
A unique location on the coast of Norway. Exceptional views from the peak of Mt. Akse show Ålesund at its finest.
A new type of transportation! Not exactly luxury, but better than expected. Hurtigruten is a terrific and affordable way to see the coast and fjords up close. We opted for a one-day journey to a slightly more remote island town.
Bergen is the 2nd largest city in Norway and a most scenic spot with its hilly and coastal geography. It’s a university town and dominated by friendly students that make up a lot of the workforce. Bergen also seems like the cruise ship capital – we saw 3 different cruise ships docked each day, including the Queen Mary II. …
In a word – outstanding!
We spent a week on the idyllic island of Tjøme, taking it easy, adjusting to the time zone, and adapting to the Norwegian lifestyle and Norwegian prices (BIG!). Our friends are adept at buying things like alcohol and some household supplies in Sweden. We have lots of discussions about the differences in economies and lifestyles in the US, Australia, other parts of Europe and Norway.
Our travels take us to Europe after a few months in Tiburon. It’s August so our itinerary begins in Scandinavia and takes us south as the seasons change.
